OUR LADY OF LOURDES SCHOOL

Welcome back for our final term this year...

... AND WHAT A FABULOUS TERM WE HAVE IN STORE FOR US.
MAKE SURE YOU KEEP AN EYE ON THE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER FOR UPCOMING DATES TO BE AWARE OF

Our inquiry ]is ‘ANIMAL ANTICS’ with the rich question - ‘Where is my home?’

Navigators have decided to look at a variety of animals of interest. Comparing and contrasting will be important skills we will be further developing.

I invite you to send an animal skins, feathers, bones, eggs, body parts etc to school to share with us.

We are having a pet blessing on Thursday 15 October. Bring your pets to school from 9 am - 9.15 am.
Fr Percy will bless them and then you may take them home again. We are unable to keep our pets at school for the day. Keep reading our blog for photos from this special event.

Term Four is always busy so keep an eye on the school newsletter for upcoming dates for events.

As usual PE gear, RE books, reading books etc will be needed every school day. We will be working hard up until the last week of term!

Later in the term I will be asking for your help in finding suitable costumes for your child’s role in our school production. Our production is called ‘The Stars Come Out For Christmas’ . We will be performing at The Spiers Centre on the evenings of 2 & 3 December.

Kind regards, Jody Hayes

Inquiry Learning Newsletter
2009
Our Lady of Lourdes School, Palmerston North
    Issue Four
‘In the Future’

Our final inquiry learning newsletter for 2009 will outline some of the ways our inquiry may impact on the future.

The purpose of the ‘In the Future’ phase of the inquiry learning cycle is to evaluate what has been achieved and decide if the project needs more work.

The evaluation will include reflection on the process of inquiry learning and the skills that are being developed as part of this process..

     Evaluations may be completed as individuals but will very often contribute to a whole class or group evaluation. With teacher guidance questions such as;

Did I achieve what I wanted to?

     Did I answer my question/s?

What have I learned and what do I need to learn now?

Does my chosen audience find my information clear, concise and easy to follow?

Have I made the appropriate acknowledgements and listed my sources?

     What would I do differently?

What do other people think of the project?

Taking Action

Taking action can be a wonderful result of reflection and evaluation. This is when the inquiry learning cycle lends itself to moving beyond the classroom. The action may be a small, easily achievable action or something more major. It really depends on the topic of study. You may have noticed some ways in which you are able to take action at home now that your child has told you about their inquiry.

Thank you to all our school community that gets involved in our learning - we are blessed by your contributions!

Look around our school ... ask the children what they are learning about for this term and how they think they might take action. Are there skills or talents YOU have that you are willing to enrich their learning with? Taking action brings about change for the good.
